A BORDON theatre and activity day are among the projects set to benefit from funding from Hampshire County Council’s executive member for culture, recreation and countryside.

At his decision day last Monday, Andrew Gibson (Test Valley Central, Conservative) approved grants totalling more than £240,000 for 21 community organisations and village halls across the county, including the two Bordon organisations.

Mr Gibson allocated £2,500 to the Whitehill and Bordon Town Partnership to fund its Summer Activity Day in August. The event will offer free entertainment and aims to encourage the adoption of healthier lifestyles through taster activities and information stands. The organisation has also committed £1,550 of its own funds and has secured £1,500 from Radian housing group.

Mr Gibson decided to give £1,950 to The Phoenix Theatre and Arts Centre to support community arts, cultural classes, activities and workshops in the autumn to enable children and other town residents to engage in creative learning. Mr Gibson said: “We’re delighted to support community organisations, which play a valuable role in bringing together local people of all ages.”
