A POIGNANT wreath-laying ceremony at a war memorial has set the scene for a special television documentary next month which will chronicle the discovery of the grave of a First World War pilot missing for almost 100 years. Paul Cormack, from Merritts Meadow, Petersfield, whose uncle Second Lieutenant Philip Cormack of 204th Squadron RAF was shot down in an air battle on German lines in support of French forces in 1918, had long thought that any hopes of finding his grave were long gone. But now, almost on the centenary of the Great War, the mystery that surrounded his uncle's missing grave was solved by Amanda Harwood, the education and outreach officer at Petersfield Museum, following the work a Belgian researcher. The 97-year wait comes after the discovery of the brave pilot's final resting place in a war cemetery in Machelen, Belgium, five years ago. For full story, see this week's Petersfield Herald.
