GRAYSHOTT groups have benefited, thanks to community grants awarded by Hampshire County Council ward member Floss Mitchell.

Mrs Mitchell visited the new La Leche League breast feeding support group, which meets weekly at the St Luke’s Church Rooms, to meet members.

The group was set up by Verity-Rose Webb with breastfeeding counsellor Nicola Summers.

Mrs Webb was keen to help other mums to access support following the closure of the children’s centre in Bordon. She approached Mrs Mitchell for help and St Luke’s parochial church council agreed to let the group use the church rooms. The councillor provided £188 for the set-up costs, including the purchase of leaflets and books members can take away.

Nichola said: “The sessions give mothers the opportunity to share ideas and work though difficulties and build a much needed support network with other mothers. Lifelong friendships are often formed at La Leche groups.”

Mrs Mitchell said: “It’s been a privilege to help set up this new support network for mums. My children were both born prematurely, so I understand how difficult it can be to get breastfeeding established. Grayshott Cafe La Leche provides great advice and the supportive network that can be a real lifeline. Verity-Rose has done a great service in getting this off the ground.”

Mrs Mitchell also awarded:

• £1,500 towards set-up costs of Grayshott Primary’s after-school club

• £500 to St Luke’s holiday club

• £500 to Grayshott Tennis Club towards court resurfacing costs

• £100 towards the parish council’s website project;

• £200 to Grayshott Concerts to sponsor young musicians and

• £500 towards the costs of a new roller at Grayshott Cricket Club’s Broxhead Common Ground.
