THE big pond at Frensham Great Pond and Common has re-opened six weeks after the discovery of unsafe levels of blue-green algae.
Waverley Borough Council received an algal analysis report from the Environment Agency on Friday and, based on the results showing safe levels of blue-green algae, can now allow people to go back into the water.
The pond was closed on July 19 and the Environment Agency has since tested the water on a weekly basis.
Blue-green algae naturally occurs in estuaries, the sea and in inland waters but can produce toxins strong enough to kill wild animals, domestic pets and farm livestock, and can lead to illnesses and rashes in humans.
