A LONG-awaited facelift for Petersfield's Lavant Street which began last week could transform the important town street within the next 12 months.

With pavement repairs forming part of the first phase of the works, it is hoped that the environmental improvements will bring rewards to the neglected Petersfield street for both shoppers and traders.

The ultimate aim is a tree-lined green aspect for the street which links the town centre and the railway centre.

It aims to make Lavant Street a more attractive shopping destination in its own right and an important gateway to the South Downs National Park.
