TOWN mayor Derek Gardner has rewarded green-fingered youngsters from Wootey Infant School with Alton in Bloom certificates and bulbs.

He also presented pupils with the things the school celebrates each week, such as reading certificates, lunchtime table of the week certificates, a Get Caught Reading raffle winner and a writer of the week award for each class when he attended a special school assembly.

In addition, the mayor presented headteacher Ella Palmer with a Certificate of Recognition and Champagne glasses from Hampshire County Council in recognition of 25 years of “long and loyal service to the county council”.

Mrs Palmer said: “I have worked in Hampshire schools as a teacher for all of these years, with 15 of them as headteacher at Wootey Infant School.”
