WEYDON School is set to construct a "world-class" sporting facility for the benefit of students and the wider community after Surrey County Council gave the green light for floodlighting last week. The high-performing secondary school has successfully applied for a total of 14 floodlights to illuminate two synthetic pitches, one for rugby and another for hockey, as part of a major expansion scheme that will increase its intake by 25 per cent. Neighbouring residents, and a number of councillors, have expressed concerns over light and noise pollution as a result of the floodlights – as well as the potential for increased traffic on nearby roads.
