MORE than 130 homes and a children's nursery could be on the cards following the demolition of former Farnham Hospital buildings, after Waverley Borough Council officers recommended the proposals be given the green light. The controversial outline planning application for the site is due to be debated at next week's western area development control sub- committee. Planners will decide whether the new residential development and the number of homes is acceptable in principle, as well as access and parking issues. The proposals include the erection of 134 homes, including 53 affordable dwellings, half of which will be for key workers and half for those on the council housing needs register. The plans, which allow for 51 dwellings per hectare, are within the government planning guidelines. So far, 37 letters, including a petition bearing 116 signatures, have been received. Farnham Town Council has also given the plans the thumbs down on a number of grounds. They include concerns over traffic and parking issues. The town council is also unhappy about the siting of all the affordable housing on the southern part of the site. The recommendation includes a number of conditions, including a contribution of almost £150,000 towards education provision, providing and maintaining communal open spaces and a play area on site as well as a contribution towards off-site leisure provision and highways in the local area. The meeting takes place in the council chamber of Waverley's offices at the Burys, Godalming, on Wednesday at 7 pm, instead of in Farnham, because of the large turnout expected.
