THE seething perception that Farnham is suffering disregard and injustice as part of Waverley has led to formation of a group campaigning to achieve the town's divorce from the borough.

The newly formed Non-partisan Petition Group is calling on residents to "Stand Up for Farnham!" and is set to launch a bid to raise a 10,000-signature petition to the Queen.

Although current legislation does not allow for Farnham to break away and take on the powers of a district or borough authority, the potential for such a petition was initially raised at the annual meeting of electors organised by Farnham Town Council earlier this year.

And the notion has gained momentum, leading to formation of the NPG a fortnight ago.
