HASLEMERE Museum’s Great War exhibition, researched and staged by Liphook Guides fought off stiff competition from across the country to gain a Women’s History Network’s Community Prize.

The project was awarded a “highly commended” in the annual community history competition to find the most deserving project by, about, or for women, which has led to the production of a documentary, pamphlet, book, exhibition, artefact or event.

Museum education officer Kay Topping, who helped research the project, said: “It was a great accolade for all the Guides’ hard work. I saw them grow from young people wondering what to do in the museum to researchers and young curators deciding what order the exhibition panels should go in and how artefacts should be displayed.

“The judges were especially impressed by how the project got the young girls involved in history and the way they researched and curated the exhibition.”
