THIS year’s seniors’ captain’s day at Old Thorns Golf Club raised close to £2,400 for the GUTS Bowel Cancer Charity in Guildford.
Hosted by former British international showjumping champion and current captain Adrian Hoar, as well as guest of honour Peter Alliss, the Old Thorns president, the day was enjoyed by teams from clubs in Hampshire, Surrey and Sussex.
The event was sponsored by Alton-based equipment manufacturer Srixon, which provided opportunities to try out their latest clubs throughout the day, as well as donating a range of prizes, presented by area sales manager Karl Gunther.
Adrian managed to bag the “nearest to the Pin” prize wile visiting golfer Steve Howe received a strimmer for the lowest individual Stableford score of the day from Adrian – and was taken in good humour.
The auction was supported by Golf at Goodwood, West Surrey, Tyrrells Wood, Pyrford, Chobham, Puttenham, Cowdray Park and Cranleigh Golf and Country Club, as well as Hamptworth in the New Forest, Tracy Park in Bath, and Castlemaryr near Cork in southern Ireland.
