STELLAR Gymnastics’ school’s tournament was a huge success, with Weydon School coming out top.
The competition is designed so that anyone, whether they are new to the sport or have been doing it since they were small can enter. This year there were more than 60 children take part from years seven to nine.
Medals were awarded to individuals in each category, but it was Weydon School that had the highest score and took the 2016 Stellar Cup home with them.
The competition was incredibly close, with Weydon scoring 410.45 points, lasts year’s winners All Hallows School followed closely behind with 394.9 and Farnham Heath End took third place with 391.65.
Hannah Fox, head of Stellar Gymnastics, said: “This was the second year we’ve run it and as well as All Hallows’, Weydon and Heath End this year we had gymnasts from Fernhill and Ash Manor join us.
“It was brilliant to see how those who’d competed last year had improved and the atmosphere was great with all gymnasts cheering each other on. Their schools should be very proud.
“I absolutely love running this competition as it really is a celebration of the sport for young people in the area. Gymnastics is on the national curriculum yet it rarely gets to have fixtures in the way that football or netball does, that’s why I’m so proud that we can put this on for the kids and they can show off what they can do.”
