THROUGHOUT his 33 years as a Portsmouth supporter, über fan John Westwood has seen his fair share of hair-raising moments. But John has ensured that his new cut will create a buzz all of his own in celebration of Saturday's FA Cup final against Cardiff City at Wembley. The barnet features a fully-coloured club crest, complete with a detailed illustration of the FA Cup. "It looks absolutely brilliant," 45-year-old John enthused. "The Daily Star were looking for a fan with energy, so they picked me up and took me to Lotus Styling in Bognor Regis. "I must have been there for three hours having it done – you've got to sit really still. He was a great guy, and after he cut it I couldn't believe it. It looks so good. "It's nicely done and I've got a haircut for nothing and it was re-done on Tuesday for the final," continued the owner of the Petersfield Bookshop. Looking on in disbelief at the Chapel Street shop was mother Anne, who laughed, shook her head, and shrugged: "What will he do next?" The design joins a tattoo on John's head which reads 'Pompey – the best and ahead of all the rest' – and the football fanatic is in the midst of full- blown FA Cup fever. "It still hasn't sunk in. It's the biggest day in the football calendar, and I've always dreamed of Portsmouth being in the cup final. "I cried my eyes out at the semi-final [against West Bromwich Albion]. A mate came up to me and said what's the matter, John? "I was thinking about all the things I've suffered over the years; the administration battles, being kicked out of grounds when I've been picked on. But now we're in the final of the greatest domestic cup competition in the world," he smiled, his mind drifting off to north-west London. And John feels Saturday is the start of something big for one of English football's sleeping giants. "If we win, we'll be in Europe, and it's our highest ever Premiership finish. We've got a new ground and training facilities in the pipeline. On and off the pitch, Portsmouth are making grand strides. "Hopefully, this is the beginning of something bigger and better for the club, and I honestly believe Portsmouth could be one of the biggest clubs in the world," he added. "The loyalty of Portsmouth fans over the years has been second to none, and if ever any fans deserved it, Portsmouth fans do. "It is just fantastic to see them fulfil their potential – it's great for the area and the community. "Customers come in here and know I'm a Pompey fan, but the amount of good will and 'good luck' messages from people who are not normally football fans has been overwhelming," John said. With Saturday looming large, John said: "We've got the nightclub outside (Wembley), which is brilliant. You walk outside and immediately you're into the ground. "But this time I'll be in the stadium an hour before kick off, to make sure I savour the atmosphere. "The strange thing is, if we win the final, we'll be going back to Wembley for a third time for the Charity Shield. "It's just like buses. You wait 45 years to see Portsmouth at Wembley and it could happen three times in a summer!"
