THE sunshine came out to greet the Hale Carnival last weekend in a spectacular day of fun, frolics and procession madness.
The carnival was opened by Waverley leader Julia Potts, accompanied by Farnham Town Crier, Jonathan Jones, swiftly followed by the maypole dancing of Folly Hill School - who despite a heavy downpour carried on with their heads held high.
The ever popular dog show hosted a variety of classes from the waggiest tails to the scruffiest dog, and the committee would like to thank Alice from Armadillo Pets for helping to organise the show.
The crowds were entertained by musicians The Kings Pond Shantymen, Off the Record, Rough Ditch Folk and headline act Fuzz Union.
The hay bales hired for the front of the stage area, didn’t last long once a few people started a mass frenzy with hay being tossed in the air.
Winners of the Best in Show (children) category was Hale School with their tribute to Roald Dahl, followed by Opportunities, Hale Networking Group who took home Best in Show (adults) with their ‘Hale Community’ procession entry.
The Most Original Entry went to Greenways Nursery in Farnham with their ‘In The garden’ themed float.
Other notable procession winners included Folly Hill School with their ‘Rainbow, Sunshine, Moonbeams’; William Cobbett Primary School with ‘On the Farm’; Bethel Baptist Church with their eye catching ‘Space Academy, Mission Accomplished’ entry; Hale Methodist Church turned heads with their ‘The Great British Bake Off’ float; and Roger Cope’s entry of ‘1978 MGB GT in British racing green’ wowed onlookers.
A new carnival competition this year sponsored by the Hale Tesco Express was a ‘Decorate Your House’ along the carnival parade route.
In return Upper Hale Road, Tesco Express manager Etsil Boukhobza, donated three vouchers worth £50, £30 and £10 to the winners 127, 121D and 100.
The Hale Carnival Committee would like to thank all the helpers on the day, without them the show would not go ahead. The committee is looking for more members to join, go to www.halecarnival.co.uk to find out how and come to the AGM in September.
Committee chairman Amanda Sergison-Main said: “Personally, I thought the carnival was an excellent day for the Hale Community, we have had so much positive feedback and notes of thanks, which really make it all worthwhile.
