ON one the hottest days of the year so far, Hale Carnival came to life with a green theme, a variety of stalls and a bustling procession.
Kicking off the afternoon were the Folly Hill Infant School Maypole dancers, with a number of bands, including the Ukanhop, the Why Band, The Dolomites, the Missy Nelson Band and The Mays, providing toe-tapping entertainment throughout the day. Due to the heat, the dog show was held in the shade and was shorter than usual.
New to this year was a silent disco in the Scout hut and Hooplas near the children’s tent, both of which were run by committee members and their family and friends.
Another new addition was the introduction of Eco Cups in the beer tent, which were described by committee members as a “resounding success”.
Carnival chairman Martyn Winning said he was “delighted by the response and the fact that people were buying just the cups to use personally was testament to such a wonderful idea”.
The carnival procession started at Hale School, heading down the hill and to the green. The Best in Show prize went to Hale School and the Most Original display went to the Emily Organ – Rock Again from St Mark’s Church.
Hale Carnival Committee also ran a competition for the best decorated house along the procession route and residents didn’t disappoint, with banners, flags and bunting put out to celebrate the carnival procession. The Bradberry family were the winners and received a £50 prize.
