AROUND half of all utility company road repairs in Surrey are botched, according to Surrey County Council.

The council tested 1,200 of the repairs carried out by the utilities in 2010/11 and about 50 per cent of the sample failed. Problems included the wrong repair material being used and holes not being compacted properly.
