ALTON Assembly Rooms offered a truly 'spooktacular' experience at its annual children's Hallowe'en disco, with 150 children and adults turning up for music, magic, tricks and treats.

Nick Clark was unable to host the event due to illness in the family, but Chubby Children's Entertainment stepped in to save the day.

This year's best dressed competition was hard to judge as there were many great and imaginative costumes, but Alton mayor Derek Gardner lent a hand.

He said: "It is events like this that really do show the importance of venues such as the Assembly Rooms. Just looking around at the many ages all having fun together, this is what it is all about. We are very lucky to have a manager for this building who thinks outside the box, and looks at as many possible ways to pull the whole community together, and his efforts really show this evening, seeing all these happy faces."

Assembly Rooms manager Jason Passingham said: "I am thrilled at the success of tonight. I just love this event."
