FUN-LOVING folk in a village near Petersfield are putting the final touches to their annual festivities. Backed by history, Harting Festivities organising are looking forward to another bumper event in the village on Bank Holiday Monday. The event has been run in one guise or another since 1880 and has lost none of its appeal, with South Harting turned into a hive of activity and excitement. This year, the fun starts at 11am. "We are hoping for our usual warm May Bank Holiday weather this year," said Harting Festivities chairman Peter Hayman. "Indeed, our plans are more ambitious this year with the opening up of the south gardens area, and a wider range of attractions and events." He said there would be something for everyone this year, with competitions for the younger children and some spectacular giant bouncy castles and slides, and a miniature train will take people from the main street to south gardens. For the older children – or, indeed, adults – there will be stalls, games, radio-controlled car racing, and plenty to eat and drink. Liss band will be joined by The Knock Hundred Shuttles and The Hampshire Combined Army Cadet Force Band. Dancers from the village school will perform and there will a spectacular display of African drumming, Irish dancers, street entertainers, displays of dog agility, and the popular Kidsrome animal farm. Traditional elements will include Old Club Parade and a fancy dress competition. Cash from this year's event will help local projects and charities.
