Haslemere Cricket Club have begun the search to establish who is their oldest living ex-player.
Not that they want to recruit him to their current ranks, but rather to join them in their 175th anniversary celebrations that take place this year.
The town's club, originally formed in 1827, are organising a series of events to celebrate the anniversary. Chairman Michael Horlock says the club want to make contact with as many former players as possible, and hoped to identify the oldest survivor.
"We are obviously always on the look-out for new talent," he said, "both to play in our senior sides and our colts. However, we want to invite former players to some of the celebratory functions and hope they will make contact."
Mr Horlock went on: "During 2002 we hope to organise an exhibition on the history of Haslemere Cricket Club, and appeal to anybody who has any memorabilia relating to Haslemere CC – photographs, medals, fixture-cards and scorebooks for instance – to come forward.
"We would particularly like to hear from anybody who played for the club prior to, and just after, the Second World War."
