NEW services to support older people will be developed at Haslemere’s Haslewey Centre, thanks to an annual council grant of £26,000 for the next three years that will be used fund an activities co-ordinator.
Waverley Borough’s portfolio holder for grants Jim Edwards, who represents the town, said: “We have been working with the Haslewey Centre to identify how to develop and enhance the excellent services they provide.
“They already do tremendous work and by working in partnership we can build on the fantastic things they have done with the Community Meals Service, whose customers are now part of the Haslewey family.
“We will ask people what activities they would like to be provided.”
Haslewey trustees chairman Penny Bradley added: “The staff and trustees have worked so very hard to make Haslewey what it is today – a vibrant place to be for people of all ages.
“The grant funding will enable us to reach out to our more vulnerable, elderly residents. We very much look forward to working in partnership with Waverley.”
Haslewey is one of 12 voluntary organisations the council supports with an overall grant of £687,105 per year.
