Brook 'A' continue to lead the Haslemere League's division one after their 9-1 victory over Haslemere 'C'.

This was thanks to hat-tricks from Roy Hardy and Gordon Mitchell. For the losers, there was an excellent performance from Gary Edwards who came back strongly to out-hit Arwyn Edwards 10-21, 21-9, 21-12.

Holding second place are Hawkley 'A' who inflicted the first defeat of the season on Brook 'B'. There were several close contests in this encounter, the best being between Andy Cunningham and Andy Clegg. Cunningham took the honours for Hawkley with a 13-21, 21-23, 21-19 victory.

In the longest match, Eric North beat Brook's Brian Smithers 21-16, 18-21, 21-19, while the biggest turn-around came when Gordon Traviss (Hawkley) defeated Jim Stewart 5-21, 21-9, 21-16.

This leaves Hawkley just four points behind Brook 'A' with a game in hand.

At the other end of the table, Malcolm Ironmonger gained a couple of valuable points for Bordon 'A' who lost 8-2 to Haslemere 'D'. His brace included a win over Mick Hale, 27-25, 21-10.

The top two teams met in the Div I Cup semi-final. Brook 'A' brought in Phil Myers and he duly obliged with an excellent victory over Eric North, 11-5, 11-7, 12-10. And with Neil Westmore beating Steve French 6-11, 11-6, 11-5, 11-6, and Arwyn Edwards defeating Andy Cunningham in another close contest, Brook ran out easy 5-1 victors. In the final, they will meet either Brook 'B' or Haslemere 'A'.

In division two, Haslemere 'E' ended the unbeaten record of Verdley who were without Ian Stewart. Verdley's Jean Morton beat debutant Tony Edwards by 21-19, 21-17.

This victory puts Haslemere clear at the top, but Alice Holt continued their winning run with a whitewash of Loxwood 'A' who were without the injured Peter Foskett. Alice Holt are now just 15 points behind with two games in hand.

Brook 'D' suffered their first defeat of the season, going down to the strong Hawkley 'B' side. Mick Walker and Ron Woodward scored hat-tricks for Hawkley.

The improving Loxwood 'B' team scored their first point of the season when Tricia Clark's tenacity overcame Philip Scott (Grayshott) 11-21, 22-20, 22-20, and then Graham Clark got their second point.

Loxwood went on to secure their first victory of the campaign when they beat Loxwood 'C' 8-2. For the losers, there was an excellent victory for Glad Remnant over Jackie Watt, 21-16, 21-13, and she then combined with Sue Bowman to beat Jackie Watt and Tricia Clark 21-11, 21-19 in the first all-ladies doubles match in the league for several seasons.

The closest match in this division was between Haslemere 'F' and Grayshott, which ended in a draw. Keith Westall (Grayshott) scored an excellent hat-trick, including a victory over Daniel Edwards by 27-25, 16-21, 21-13. Margaret Watson recorded a fine win over Keith Howard (Grayshott) and then combined with Paul Spooner to win the doubles.
