A COUPLE in Headley have celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

Angela and Bob Whistler tied the knot on January 31, 1970, around a year after they met at Angela’s 18th birthday party. Angela was almost 19 when the couple married, while Bob was 23.

Bob was in the Royal Navy and so was away for “four or five months at a time”. “It was hard,” they said.

They had two children – a daughter named Elizabeth and a son named Phillip. They also have five grandchildren, one great grandchild and another one is on the way.

Angela has lived in Headley Fields all her life, except for three years when they lived in Portsmouth and then Gosport. In fact, Angela is said to be the “longest serving resident in the lane!”

Bob went on to have “various jobs”, including a 22 year stint as a fireman in Haslemere, while Angela worked for 33 years as a driver for AMK, among other things.

They celebrated their 50th anniversary with a dinner and dance party last Friday at The Half Moon in Sheet.
