A SCHOOL headteacher has come to the rescue of a gymnastics group.

Hart Gymnastics Club was facing a bleak future after Everything Active, the new management company behind Hart Leisure Centre, notified them that they would no longer house club gymnastics, only recreational facilities.

This meant the club, which is home to children from Hook, Odiham, Hartley Wintney and all over Hart, was facing the possibility of being homeless by the end of the summer.

Debbie Hicks, the club’s head coach, said that headteacher Martin Amos, from Calthorpe School in Fleet, got in contact with the club and offered it a new home, wanting to keep the club, which has been a backbone of the area formore than 20 years, in the community.

The school has just seen the completion of a new large hall, meaning that the gymnastics club will now have numerous locations within the school to choose from.

She added that the community had come together to help the club and the offer from Calthorpe was one of many it had received.

Hart Gymnastics Club is home to a number of gymnastic groups with ages spanning from two to 16.

A new home is just another piece of good news in what has been a fantastic summer for the gymnasts.

Last month, from their three groups, they had three champions and brought home 20 medals at the Fareham Floor and Vault competition, hosted by British Gymnastics.

With GymFusion on the horizon in November, at the Guildhall in Portsmouth, the club has a lot to look forward to.
