ASSURANCES that West Surrey Health Authority's proposals to close all 29 beds at Haslemere Hospital were "safe and sound" were greeted with jeers and laughter at a public meeting on Monday night.
Speaking at a meeting organised by the South West Surrey Community Health Council, WSHA chief executive Jenny Griffiths claimed that the proposal to close the beds and replace them with nursing home places, beds at Milford Hospital and intermediate care packages was "safe and sound", although admitted that a further audit of patients already receiving care in their own homes would have to be carried out before the plans were implemented.
