THE latest cohort of Couch to 5K (C25K) runners from Rowledge-based running group RunFitMum have graduated this week with their first 5k run.

The group of six ladies struggled to run for just 90 seconds when they started the course back in September.

Now, 10 weeks later, they can run for up to 40 minutes at a time, two or three times a week, with some of them planning to tackle even longer distances in the new year.

Kate Hutchings, who is one of the graduates, said: “I was a bit daunted as a never saw myself as a runner, but Caroline and Sasha dispelled that myth from day one.

“They were so encouraging on our runs and throughout the week with messages and comments.

“I expected the increased fitness – and slightly less wibbly, wobbly bits – but I didn’t expect to discover such a positive and welcoming running community.”

RunFitMum is a running group focused specifically on helping women get back to fitness after having children.

It was founded three years ago by mums Caroline Eaton and Sasha Cowley, who wanted to share the benefits of running with other mums.

The club now has more than 300 members and offers five free club runs each week around Farnham at parent-friendly times. RunFitMum also offers a number of running courses each term, including the C25K course.

RunFitMum’s next C25K course starts on Friday, January 11, at 9.30am.
