ROYAL Surrey County Hospital is holding a free patient support group for glaucoma and ocular hypertension sufferers.
The event, organised in conjunction with the International Glaucoma Association, will take place in the Trust’s Post Graduate Education Centre on Tuesday, May 31, between 2pm and 3.30pm.
This follows the success of the first patient-support group, which Royal Surrey’s Eye Clinic organised last year.
It will explore alternative options for treating glaucoma and high eye pressure, including laser therapy and surgical techniques.
Dan Lindfield, consultant ophthalmologist and Glaucoma lead, said: “It is a great event and the feedback we received from patients who attended our first support group was fantastic.
“It is deliberately informal and friendly event to help patients feel comfortable to ask questions, however minor.
“I am also trying to create a supportive group who communicate among themselves outside of these meetings to discuss issues with and hold regular meetings with.”
In the meantime, Mr Lindfield is also asking for patients to contact him with their suggestions for possible topics they would like covered.
For more information about the support group or to attend the event contact Mr Lindfield’s secretary, Teresa Butler on [email protected] or by calling 01483 571122 ext 2089.
Royal Surrey is also holding a joint ophthalmology and audiology health event at Surrey Sports Park on April 6, between 2pm and 4pm.
