MORE than 700 runners will limber up for the sixth Farnham Pilgrim Marathon and Half Marathon on Sunday.

The marathon was named Best New Event in its first year by Runner’s World magazine and this year is listed in the magazine’s top 10. The marathon starts at 9.30am and the half-marathon at 10.30am.

Both the full marathon and the half-marathon start and finish at The Sands Village Recreation Ground (opposite the Barley Mow Pub), where there will be music from the Farnham Town Band, refreshments, massage facilities, and fun activities.

New this year will be a family fun walk of just over two miles through beautiful Surrey scenery.

The event is organised by Farnham Weyside Rotary Club who, with hundreds of volunteers, provide marshalling, refreshments around the course, and the entertainment at the start and finish point.

This year the two nominated charities are the Woodlarks Centre, a care home and activity centre in Farnham supporting people with physical or learning disabilities, and the Alzheimer’s Society, which supports people affected by dementia.

The organisers are grateful for the support of their sponsors.
