CAMPAIGNERS calling for traffic calming in Heath Lane, Upper Hale are expected to hear today (Friday) that their petition to make the road safer has fallen on deaf ears. The news comes after a recommendation by Surrey County Council's local committee in Waverley not to proceed with a scheme for the narrow residential road, which connects Upper Hale Road with Alma Lane. The county's traffic experts will recommend to the meeting, being held in Bramley, that "traffic calming, parking restrictions or modifications to junctions at this location is not of a high enough priority to warrant inclusion in the list of priority schemes for the Waverley area at the present time". A report by officers will explain that, following a petition for traffic calming, a speed check was carried out. Of the 100 vehicles checked, most were travelling at between 20 and 25 miles per hour. The report goes on to say that there has only been one reported injury accident at the junction within the past three years. Parking, said the report, was typical of other similar roads, and junctions either end of the lane were already controlled and did not have a significant road safety problem.
