FARNHAM charity The Hedgehogs, Farnham’s has donated £5,000 toward the town Scouts’ Garners Goes Bananas project.

The Scouts group has embarked on a major redevelopment of its Garners Field campsite in Tilford at a projected cost of £160,000. Work on the project began in November and involves an extension and refurbishment to the activity centre.

Garners Field has been a well-known location for families whose children have gone through Beavers and then on to the Scouts for the past 40 years.

The site and its Scout leaders manage more than 5,000 nights camping per year, for Farnham Scouts and other regional Scouting groups.

Paul Sacha, of The Hedgehogs, said at the presentation: “When The Hedgehogs were asked to support the project, members approved the £5,000 donation as the Scouts in Farnham is a major organisation that is investing in the future of the area’s youth.”

Phil German, district commissioner of Farnham Scouts, said: “The Farnham Scouting members total more than 1,000, including 250 leaders who give up their time to ensure the continuing development of the Scout members and our infrastructure at Garners Field.

“Garner’s Goes Bananas is the chosen charity of Farnham’s mayor, David Attfield, and it is fantastic news that The Hedgehogs decided to support the project.

“We still have some £40,000 to raise and every donation from Farnham’s residents, businesses and other organisations will ensure we complete the project by April 2019.”
