HEDGEHOGS have returned to The Bourne. Geoff Hooker found this little fella tucked up in his greenhouse, and according to editor of the Bourne Conservation Group newsletter Martin Angel, it could be the first hog seen in the village for nearly 40 years.

Martin said: “A couple of years back I ran a garden wildlife in Farnham - there were just over 100 respondents none of whom had seen a hedgehog for 25-plus years. It is also noticeable that I have not seen a squashed hog on any road around Farnham since we moved here nearly 40 years ago.”

Another hedgehog sighting was reported last week in Greenhill Road, and Martin speculated the hedgehog’s decline and subsequent return to The Bourne could be explained by fluctuations in the local badger population.
