THE Hedgehogs are taking control of the reins for the Frensham Sponsored Horse Ride (FSHR) - previously the Frensham Sponsored Ride - in Tilford on April 22.

The proceeds from the ‘old’ event have supported a number of local charities based in Surrey and Hampshire.

The committee, after some consideration, decided to hand over the reins to a new organising team, the Hedgehogs.

The Hedgehogs is a charity ‘Helping Local People in Need’ and organisations in Farnham and the surrounding villages.

The FSHR will retain similar objectives to the ‘old’ ride and the proceeds will be distributed across a wide range of organisations and individuals who require support.

It has three classes for riders: Juniors Under 16yrs, Seniors 16yrs-39yrs and Veterans 40yrs and over.

Additionally, the charity is organising other cross country events including Ride with Confidence, Children’s ‘In Hand’ and Dog and Handler.

Brian Lacey, joint chairman of the organising committee, said: “The Hedgehogs were delighted to be chosen by the ‘old’ committee to take over the event which has successfully run for over four decades.

“Entrants come not only from Surrey and Hampshire, but include Somerset, Berkshire, Kent, Essex, Sussex and London area."
