AROUND 30 members of Farnham Leisure Centre’s stroke rehabilitation group met for a Christmas meal at the Beefeater in Guildford Road before Christmas.

The centre in Dogflud Way holds gym classes for stroke victims every Monday and Thursday from 2.30pm to 3.30pm, aimed at improving strength, mobility and confidence following a stroke and also to reduce the risks of further ill health.

Most members are referred to the group by a physio or health professional, however Farnham Leisure Centre does take self referrals.

The classes, which are run by a trained fitness instructor, are also suitable for anyone recovering from other illness and low fitness levels, as well as those living with conditions such as MS, Parkinson’s or ME.

Balbir Davies, one of the group’s longest-standing members, said: “I started going to the group after suffering a stroke eight years ago when on holiday in Cyprus.

“It has helped me massively and I get withdrawal symptoms if I miss a session! But there are so many stroke victims in Farnham who don’t know about our group and how it may help them.

“I encourage all of them to join us one week and give it a go.”

Farnham Leisure Centre’s stroke rehabilitation group costs £4.20 per session or £32 per month. For more information, call the centre on 01252 723208 or visit its website.
