FARNHAM Help for Refugees, a charitable group set up by mums to support Syrian refugees in the UK, Europe and the Middle East, is hosting a collection service from 2pm to 7pm today (Thursday, February 16), at Hale Scout Hut on Wings Road.

This will be the fifth collection arranged by the group since they came together in the autumn of 2015. Farnham has been very supportive in the previous four collections and organisers hope they will help again with this latest appeal.

The donations are distributed by the Red Cross and other agencies across the Middle East, Europe and the UK.

This time the group is on the look out for clean sleeping bags and blankets; winter coats and jumpers (for adults and children); hats, scarfs, and gloves; socks and underwear (new); toiletries including tooth paste, tooth brushes and shampoo; sanitary towels and nappies. Plus other similar baby items, such as calpol, nappy rash cream, wipes and bottles.

Alternatively cash donations can be made to the British Red Cross online at www.redcross.org.uk, or by calling 0800 107 8727.

The group is still looking for volunteers to come and help sort through all the donations later this afternoon – if anyone is able to come, even for an hour, contact the group via their Facebook page, which can be found by typing in ’Farnham Help for Syrian Refugees in UK and Overseas’.
