THE Hedgehogs held their 25th annual quiz at Weydon School last month, raising £2,000 for Farnham ASSIST with the help of more than 170 supporters.

Farnham ASSIST was established in 2002 and supports older members of Farnham’s community through organisation of events by its volunteers.

June Trantom, manager of the charity, said: “The cheque for £2,000 represents a magnificent sum and the charity is overwhelmed by the Hedgehogs generosity. The money will go towards our summer outings including afternoon tea to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday.”

A ploughman’s supper was provided at the interval, and in recognition of the 25th running of the quiz a homemade chocolate cake for each table was also consumed with vigour.

The event was put together by Hedgehogs members and wives led by the main Hedgehogs organisers of the event, Alastair and Diana Muir.

In-line with the Hedgehogs tradition, Kevin Blatch who has for 25 years acted as quiz master was presented with an engraved tankard in recognition of his valued services.

The overall winning team was table 19 lead by Mike Suter with a highly commendable score of 76 out of a maximum of 80.

Bob Hockey, thchairman of the Hedgehogs, said: “The Hedgehogs are delighted by the continuing level of support we receive for our annual quiz and it remains a key event in the Hedgehogs calendar of events.

“We couldn’t hold the event without the support of the Hedgehog wives who prepare the food and tables for the quiz. Farnham ASSIST is a vital local charity that serves our older friends in and around Farnham.”
