LEISURE centre users opposed to proposals to axe the unisex sauna, steam room and jacuzzi at Haslemere's Herons leisure centre are stepping up pressure in a last-minute bid to save it.

A public consultation on Waverley Borough Councils proposals to reduce the amenity to a small segregated sauna in the male and female changing rooms closed on December 31.

A decision on the £2.8m revamp is due to be taken by the council's executive committee on February 4.

As well as firing off objections during the public consultation, supporters launched a campaign at ipetitions.com which gathered some 100 signatures.
