RECEPTION year pupils at Beacon Hill School were kept busy before half-term making the Guy for this year’s Beacon Hill bonfire and fireworks night, to be held on Saturday, November 7.
Making the Guy for the bonfire, this year under the watchful eye of assistant headteacher Janet Hill, is a school tradition and the effigy will start the evening on display in the marquee so the children can see their creation before he is carried to the bonfire just before lighting.
The bonfire night, organised by the Friends of Beacon Hill School (FofBHS), will be at Hindhead Playing Fields on Tilford Road. The gates will open at 4.30pm.
Advance tickets at a reduced price can be bought from The Coffee Lounge in Beacon Hill, Pins and Needles in Grayshott and from Dylan’s Milk Barn in Wey Hill. Tickets are sold on the gate for a higher price.
The event, which includes the bonfire, fireworks, barbecue and mulled wine, is the biggest and most popular event in the FofBHS fundraising calendar, attracting more and more people each year no matter what the weather has in store.
All funds raised go towards school projects, which so far this year include the children’s Jubilee Garden opening and a library refurbishment.
Fundraising also supports the school minibus and activities including theatre productions, music workshops and visits from the “education bus”.
