HOPES are high that a decision on BordonÕs Tesco store will be made in the next month so that construction work can begin on the store.

Public consultation on the supermarket chainÕs detailed planning application ended last Fridayand it will now be up to EHDC to make a decision on the proposals.

The store, which is set for the Bordon Motors site on the High Street, was given outline planning permission last October by the Secretary of State for Transport, Local Government and the Regions, Stephen Byers.

It was granted after a lengthy wait, and a planning inquiry, because the application was against adopted planning policy.

There have been no changes to the outline plans, which means the store will be 2,599 square metres with parking for up to 199 vehicles.

The district council has received five letters of representation, three objecting to and two supporting the detailed proposals.

Case officer Keith Oliver told The Herald: ÒA decision should be made on the application within the next four or five weeks.Ó

He said the decision would probably be delegated to the case officer and would not necessarily be made by EHDCÕs north planning committee.

Features of the store include an in-house bakery, a coffee shop and a delicatessen.

It will open seven days a week but will not have dry cleaning facilities, a post office or an in-house pharmacy.
