REPAIRS to Godalming High Street were brought forward to this week because other works have run ahead of schedule. The road is now closed from the junction of Moss Lane to the Waitrose end but will remain open for pedestrians and businesses will operate as usual.

Progress on the work to improve the street will depend on weather conditions. a bus lay-by outside Halfords has already been resurfaced and pavements improved since work begun on July 4 and took a week less to complete.

A Surrey County Council spokesman said the planned closures of part of the High Street to vehicles came into effect a week early, so work to the road and speed bumps could commence and “remain ahead of schedule.”

The works are scheduled to last 15 weeks in total but will not mean the High Street has to close for all that time.

The council said it anticipated the High Street would be closed for approximately four weeks during that time.
