WIDER issues will be taken on by the Hindhead Together Partnership, say the initiative group. At their meeting in Haslemere, this week, the partnership agreed they would shortly develop a Green Infrastructure Plan, a Community Infrastructure Study and a Marketing and Engagement Plan. Together, these would help to deliver the maximum community, economic, environmental and landscape benefits for the area arising out of the A3 tunnel scheme. Poul Christensen, chairman of the Hindhead Together Partnership, said: "We are now starting to look at how best to make use of the removal of the current A3 from the landscape and the impact of the re-landscaping that follows. "We will be working to maximise the recreational and landscape benefits for the area, producing a Green Infrastructure Plan, thinking about the potential access and tourism improvements and the sustainability issues involved. "We will also be looking closely at the other elements in the area which are important for the community, hence the Community Infrastructure Study, and we will be considering how best to make all of this work, separately and collectively, create the 'once in a lifetime' opportunity to make major improvements in the heart of Hindhead." At the same time the Concept Statement will shortly go before Waverley Borough Council's members. Stakeholders and landowners will be invited to present and discuss their ideas for development at a progress forum later this year. The Hindhead Together Partnership says it will remain proactive in the community "in order to keep the momentum going and capitalise on the positive buzz around the Concept Statement". The Hindhead Together partners hope that this progress meeting will enable them to test the principles of the Concept Statement and to see how the plans, by landowners, will fit together across the whole site. Hindhead Together co-ordinator Caroline White, said: "Hindhead Together's original principles included looking at the scope for meeting access needs within the area and considering the needs of differing recreational users; as well as exploring opportunities for recreation on Hindhead Commons, while at the same time reintroducing areas of tranquillity, following removal of through- traffic. We are now beginning to focus on this work."
