CONTRACTORS moved in swiftly to secure land on the Hogs Back at Seale against travellers on Wednesday, after about 15 caravans left the site on Tuesday night following a five-day stay. Tony Rooth, Surrey county councillor and Guildford borough councillor for the area, told The Herald that at one point over that period there appeared to be 40 to 50 vans on the land, which is next to the Hogs Back Cafe. A gap was cut in the hedge by the travellers to gain access to the county council-owned land and the council had already begun the legal process to have them evicted by the time they left. "A fairly active combined operation between the police, the county council and Guildford Borough Council has probably influenced the travellers to move on," said Mr Rooth, who visited the site on Saturday with a police community support officer.
