HOLLYBROOK Pond in Bordon will be cleaned to make it more attractive.

People living in the Hollybrook Park area have been told tree and shrub clearance will be carried out at the pond from tomorrow.

It is hoped that this work will be completed within one week, but it may be necessary for contractors to return in April for groundwork operations.

The work is part of a project to improve the pond for residents to enjoy and to make it more manageable in the future.

A working party, made up of Whitehill town councillors and representatives from the Deadwater Valley Trust, was set up last year to investigate how the pond could be improved.

Investigations uncovered complex issues to resolve, such as the management of the invasive weed Crassula helmsii (also known as swamp stonecrop or New Zealand pigmyweed), and establishing a permanent water supply. Research continues and it is hoped further work will be carried out later this year.

Adam Carew, leader of Whitehill Town Council, said: “I am thrilled we are restoring Hollybrook Pond for people and wildlife. This has required a complex investigation involving many experts and will require ongoing management. My thanks go to our staff, councillors and the Deadwater Valley Trust for all their hard work.”

The project is funded by Whitehill Town Council and East Hampshire District Council developer contributions for environmental improvements.
