THE shock announcement that Surrey should prepare plans virtually to double the number of new houses to be built in the county between now and 2016 has left Surrey County Council and local residents reeling.
The figure of 90,000 has been placed by the panel on the numbers that should be built in Surrey between 1991 and 2016. In the first part of that period, up to March 1998, 18,700 homes out of that total were completed.
