A COUPLE from Upper Hale have received the top supporters award from international development charity WaterAid.
Linda and Dave Shurlock were presented with the President’s Award for Outstanding Contribution to WaterAid at the recent WaterAid Annual Supporters’ Day in London.
As well as helping run the West Surrey Local Supporters’ Group and speaking for WaterAid both have been the representatives of ordinary supporters at many national events.
Linda said: “We were surprised and honoured to get a certificate signed by the WaterAid president - His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales.
“Of course, WaterAid is all about safe water and toilets in the developing world so you can easily guess in which room at home we have chosen to display the certificate!”
Linda has been the voice of the ordinary WaterAid supporter at national events including a reception for peers and MPs at the House of Lords.
Dave was selected as a WaterAid ambassador for the Remember a Charity free fall parachute event – designed to encourage gifts in wills. They are also involved in local MP lobbying and have featured in several national WaterAid lobbying events.
Dave added: “It is privilege enough to volunteer for a charity that is helping people to escape from poverty, but getting the award was an added bonus.”
