A LARGE crowd assembled in Haslemere High Street at the town war memorial for the Remembrance Sunday civic service at 11am with music by Haslemere Town Band.

The Last Post was played by bugler Peter Foster, who has performed that important service for more than seven years.

Haslemere town crier Christian Ashdown led the procession of dignitaries and uniformed groups from St Bartholomew’s Church.

Haslemere rector, the Reverend Christopher Bessant led the prayers “for those whose memories we cherish”, with the hope all those now on active service will come home safely.

Town mayor John Robini read out the names inscribed on the memorial of each of those who died in the First and Second World War, as the wreaths were laid.

At Haslemere Rugby Club, play stopped for a two-minute silence, as more than 300 remembered those who gave their lives.
