PETERSFIELD could become a "centre of sporting excellence" by the time of the 2012 Olympics, if a far-reaching scheme for the regeneration of Love Lane recreation grounds gets the go ahead.

"Petersfield is also is well placed, both geographically and socially, to be of some importance to the Olympic organisers," said Paul Molloy, a Petersfield town councillor in a seven-page report to Petersfield Town Council finance and general purposes committee last week.
