THE talents of Headley Bowling Club were put to good use at the club’s charity day in aid of Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice.

A total of £1,150 was raised by 48 club members attending the afternoon’s activities.

To raise the money, members took part in a novelty competition with events such as “bowling soccer” and “striking Big Ben”. Additional funds came from stalls, a raffle and tombola.

Organisers said it had been “a wonderful afternoon”, which was “crowned by cream tea and prize giving”.

Farnham’s Phyllis Tuckwell community fundraiser Charli Quay-Barnham attended the club’s following practice day, on August 24, to accept the donation.

Club treasurer Peter Osland, who will be standing down at the end of the year after two decades of unbroken service in the position, presented the cheque.

Ms Quay-Barnham thanked members for their efforts and generosity, describing the large sum raised by a relatively small group as “outstanding”, before being called onto the green for an impromptu bowls lesson. Club resident Don Stephens said she “shows promise”.
