Sir, – Next week all of us at Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice will be celebrating the hospice's 30th birthday. I wanted to take this opportunity to write and thank our local community for helping us to reach this significant milestone – and for their support over so many years. Without you, we would not be here today. Thank you.

Thanks to your help over the years, we have been able to provide care, advice and support to so many local people. Over the last 30 years there have been more than 10,000 admissions to the hospice which means we have been able to have a significant impact on more than 30,000 people's lives. Since the mid-1990s, we have also been taking all of our services into people's homes – last year, for example, we supported more than 670 patients and families in their own homes. Hospice support is provided to the family as well as the patient for as long as is necessary.

The hospice's influence and expertise also spreads beyond the hands-on care provision to patients into education, training and support to other healthcare professionals in the community, for example working with and in local nursing homes.

As we pause to celebrate, we are also looking forward to the next 30 years – and beyond. Next week we will be launching our 30:30 vision which we hope our local community will be as excited as we are about – and stay with us in our journey.

I would like to take this opportunity to invite our supporters to our Thanksgiving Service at St Andrew's Church in Farnham on Monday, February 23 at 3 pm – you would be most welcome.

Thank you for your continued support.
