NORTH Hampshire’s only adult hospice is appealing to people to get involved with its annual charity walk.
St Michael’s Hospice, which operates out of Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, has charity shops in Hook and other locations across the county and has just opened the doors to its latest fundraising event.
The Moonlight Walk will see men, women and children of all fitness levels and ages walking an eight-and-a-half mile course on Saturday, September 10, passing through areas such as Kempshott and Hatch Warren.
Last year’s walk saw more than 240 people join in, walking with their friends, families and colleagues in raising £22,000.
Registration is now open for the event which sets off from Festival Place at 9.45pm, meaning those participating will likely see a galaxy of stars and moonlight, in aid of the hospice, should the weather play ball.
Pre-registered prices are £17 for adults, £10 for children aged 17 and under. The cost on the night is £20 per adult and £12 per child. Family tickets, for two adults and two children, are available for £45.
The entry fee includes refreshments and a special Moonlight Walk medal on returning to Festival Place.
In 2016/17, it will cost the hospice £3.8m to provide their patient services to the community with just 19 per cent funding from the North Hampshire Clinical Commissioning Group.
It therefore needs to generate a net contribution of £2.8m from fundraising, gifts in wills, lottery and retail activities to support patients and their families affected by life-limiting illnesses.
