BRAVE enough to take on the hottest fundraising challenge? After the success of its first ever firewalk last year, Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice is pleased to confirm that it will be holding the event again this year.

It will take place on Sunday, November 5, at The Elvetham in Hartley Wintney, and will once again raise money to fund the vital care which the charity offers to patients and families who are living with a terminal illness.

The firewalk will be run by Time4Change (T4C), a training and events organisation which draws upon motivational psychology, neuro-linguistic programming and the martial arts to tap into inner resources of fearlessness and self-belief.

Before the walk, participants will attend a training seminar run by T4C instructor Cliff Mann, who has safely guided thousands of people over hot coals, and is recognised as the most experienced firewalk instructor in the UK and Europe.

This training is as important as the firewalk itself, and the skills and attitudes walkers will learn in the seminar will stay with them for life.

Participants will then be taken outside to walk across the fire lane, which will be made up of a combination of red-hot pine, ash and oak embers.

The lane will be 15 to 20 feet long and two to three feet wide, with a core temperature of 400 to 600°F. A debrief and certificate presentation will follow, after which walkers will be free to celebrate their achievement at the hotel bar.

Fiona Chapman, events fundraiser at Phyllis Tuckwell, said: “The firewalk was a great success last year, and we are very excited about being able to hold it again this year.

“It really pushes participants to their limits, helping them find their inner strength and self-belief. We encourage anyone who is considering taking on this challenge to believe in yourself and go for it.”

Participants will need to arrive at The Elvetham at 2.30pm to sign in, and the seminar will start at 3pm. At 5pm, participants will be taken outside for the firewalk. To find out more, or to register, visit shop.pth.org.uk/firewalk, email [email protected] or call 01252 729446.
