FANS of Jane Austen will have a ‘novel’ way to celebrate her work as 2017 marks the 200th anniversary of her death.

Tylney Hall Hotel in Hook, just a short trip away from the home of the writer of classic English novels such as Pride and Prejudice, Emma, Northanger Abbey and Sense and Sensibility will celebrate her life with a number of events throughout the year, following the novelist’s special bond with the hotel.

Austen was inspired by the picturesque county of Hampshire where she was born and lived for much of her life. Many of the real-life locations which became the settings of famous scenes in her books can be found in the region.

The hotel will be marking the bi-centenary of Austen’s death throughout the year with themed events and activities with celebrations beginning in March.

On Sunday, July 16, the exact anniversary of the author’s death, the hotel will be hosting a Regency Day for both residential and non-residential guests, with the celebratory event paying homage to the Regency period and all things Austen with a themed afternoon tea.

General manager of Tylney Hall Hotel, Sam Aziz said: “Jane Austen and her literary legacy is extremely important, not only to the people of Hampshire but the whole country.

“We are looking forward to a year filled with celebrations of her life and works and can’t wait to welcome Austen fans from across the country and overseas throughout 2017.”
